Managing aquatic invasions: Optimal locations and operating times for watercraft inspection stations

چکیده

Aquatic invasive species (AIS) cause significant ecological and economic damages around the world. A major spread mechanism for AIS is traffic of boaters transporting their watercraft from invaded to uninvaded waterbodies. To inhibit AIS, several Canadian provinces American states set up inspection stations at roadsides, where potentially infested boats are screened and, if necessary, decontaminated. However, since budgets control limited, can only be operated specific locations daytimes. Though theoretical studies provide managers with general guidelines management, more results needed determine when inspections would most effective. This subject this paper. We show how linear integer programming techniques used optimize policies under budget constraints. introduce our approach as a framework apply it prevention zebra quagga mussels (Dreissena spp.) province British Columbia. consider variety scenarios variations in constraints, propagule sources, model uncertainty affect optimal policy. Based on these results, we identify simple, generally applicable principles management.

A mathematical model for finding the optimal locations of railway stations

Regarding the importance of competitive advantages among the transportation systems, improving the costumer’s satisfaction is an important factor in attracting them to these systems. In this research, we focus on the effects of constructing new stations on users and a new mathematical model is proposed for this problem. In the proposed model, two simultaneous effects on customers by constructin...

environments: they believe these are the only insects able to do so. As a further adaptation to living around flowing water, they withstand extremely high and fast floodwaters. “Through a combination of specialised shelter-seeking and use of silk tie-downs and drag lines, larvae avoid exposure to the strongest currents and quickly return themselves to the substrate if dislodged,” the researcher...

Optimal Holding times at Transfer Stations

Most bus transit systems only offer direct service between a small fraction of the origin/destination pairs that they serve. As a consequence, many travelers must transfer between bus lines to complete their journey. In this paper schedule control policies are created to minimize transfer time under stochastic conditions. We determine how long a bus should be held at a transfer stop in anticipa...

Multilevel hybrid method for optimal buffer sizing and inspection stations positioning

Designing competitive manufacturing systems with high levels of productivity and quality at a reasonable cost is a complex task. Decision makers must face numerous decision variables which involve multiple and iterative analysis of the estimated cost, quality and productivity of each design alternative. This paper adresses this issue by providing a fast algorithm for solving the buffer sizing a...
